Since 1901 - Austria's oldest Wheat Beer Brewery

1951 – 1972

1951 – 1972

When the wheat beer brewery celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1951, it was run by Mr. and Mrs. Proto, followed by the tenants Treipl, who took care of the functional operation of the hotel and restaurant until 1973. The waitress Mali Brugger, known and appreciated in the entire city, provided for quick and lively service.

In the 1960s, the Rupertihof was a popular hotel and restaurant for visitors who attended the Salzburg Festival. Among the regular guests of this era was Herbert von Karajan's stage designer Prof. Schneider-Siemssen. During winter, the rooms were occupied by American students from the University of Redlands, California.

The rather simple but laborious beer production was carried out by the Bavarian master brewer Otto Ratgeber. At that time, wheat beer had fallen into oblivion and was virtually unknown in Austria. The small Salzburg brewery was the only brewery where this type of beer was still being produced. It was not until the late 1960s that master brewer Josef Sigl from Obertrum in cooperation with a brewery from Traunstein resumed the production of wheat beer in Austria.
